New Delhi: Making two big announcements that are expected to bring relief to over 80 cr people from economically backward families across the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the PM Garib Kalyan Yojana has been extended till November and the concept of ‘one nation, one ration card’ too will be made available.
The PM Garib Kalyan Yojana otherwise ends on June 30, however, keeping in mind the ongoing Corona crisis and a line up of festivities from August onwards, the government has decided to ensure that sufficient amount of food material is supplied to the poor.
In his address to nation on Tuesday, June 30, the PM said that the Yojana has been extended for five months and each eligible family will get five kgs of wheat/rice along with one kg lentil.
The government plans to spend Rs 90,000 crore on expanding the free ration scheme, the Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalyan Yojana, till November.
Speaking about “One Nation, One Ration Card” scheme, the PM said that it will benefit thousands of migrant workers and their families who had no fixed home or income.
While giving the credit to the farmers and the taxpayers, the PM said that they are the reason India is not going hungry.
Though there were speculations that the PM’s address will touch upon the Indo-China border tension, the 17-minute speech had no reference to the same.
