Mumbai: Police commissioner Satyapal Singh has said that they have arrested one of the people they believe to be responsible for the Mumbai gangrape and have identified four others. Speaking to the media, Singh said that the police came to know about the incident only after the girl had been admitted to hospital, adding that they had immediately formed about 20 teams to apprehend the suspects.
“Of the five accused, there are property offences filed against two”, he added.
Singh also said that although they had identified all the accused responsible for the rape, they would not reveal the names as yet, because it was a sensitive case.
RR Patil must quit immediately, says Raj Thackeray
Mumbai: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray on Thursday appealed to women across the country to send “choodiyan” (bangles) to Maharashtra home minister RR Patil in wake of horrendous gang-rape of 23-year old photojournalist by five men in south Mumbai.
Though Rajs aim must have been to take potshots at the Nationalist Congress Party(NCP) minister for his inability to stem the worsening law and order situation in the state, the remarks he chose to convey his thoughts have demonstrated how women and symbols associated with them are viewed in our country.

New Delhi: Mumbai had its echo in Rajya Sabha on Friday with agitated members expressing serious concern over increasing atrocities on women and the government assuring “harshest” action against the culprits.
Amid uproar, Minister of State for Home R.P.N. Singh said, “It is extremely unfortunate and tragic…We have asked the state government for a detailed report and have directed Maharashtra government to take immediate action in arresting the culprits and mete out the harshest punishment.”
Earlier, raising the issue during Zero Hour Smriti Zubin Irani (BJP) asked what steps had been initiated to prevent recurrence of such incidents even after repeated assurances of improving law and order condition in the aftermath of Delhi gang rape.
“It is for the people that I speak today. I speak with angst. This is not an incident that has to be viewed in isolation. Every time such an incident occurs, representatives of government come out to give a sound byte to regret it but no action is taken. Till how long will we be quiet and mute spectator to rising crime against women,” she rued.
