Madurai: Unidentified persons hurled three petrol bombs in the vicinity of the Sri Meenakshi Temple here late last night. However, out of the three hurled bombs, only one exploded. No casualties have been reported.

The incident, which has not been linked to terror attack, occurred few hours after the National Security Guard (NSG) reviewed security arrangements in the temple.

NSG DSP Viswanathan and his team inspected the CCTV arrangements, queue system, and scanning equipment.

Police said sufficient protection cover was in place in the temple and its vicinity. They feel that miscreants had hurled the bombs to trigger panic.

Temple officials were requested to restrict usage of mobile phones inside the temple and use jammers, Viswanathan said.
