New Delhi: It is usually the BJP leaders who have often heaped priases on the medicinal values of ‘Gaumutra’ (cow urine). However, this time senior Congress leader Oscar Fernandes has spoken about the virtues of ‘gaumutra’ and shared an anecdote of a man who claimed that he was cured of cancer after consuming cow urine.

Participating in a debate in Rajya Sabha on two bills for setting up national commissions for homoeopathy and Indian systems of medicine, the former Union minister said that his friend Jairam Ramesh pulls his leg everytime he talks about ‘Gaumutra’ and its medicinal properties.

Fernandes said that he had visited an ashram near Meerut, where he met a person who claimed to have cured his cancer by drinking ‘gaumutra’.

Fernandes, who is known to have mastered Yoga said that he had cured his knee problems with a simple ‘Vajrasana’. 

“My doctors has suggested a replacement surgery, but I resorted to Yog,” he said adding that if he had known former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee better, he would have had surely asked him to practice Yoga.

“Yoga is our wealth. If we all practice Yoga, our budget allocation for health can be reduced by 50 per cent. It’s a way of life,” he said.

Since Yoga and naturoparhy have been excluded from the Bill, Fernandes said that a separate legislation must be brought to cover these two wonderful wings of medicine.
