Srinagar/New Delhi: A three-member team of Union Human Resource Development (UHRD) arrived at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) campus, Srinagar for discussions with NIT officials and non-local students.

The police injured a dozen non-local students when they lathi-charged them on Tuesday. Five companies of paramilitary forces are deployed inside the campus.
The issue is posing the first challenge to the new PDP-BJP government headed by Mehbooba Mufti. It began in NIT, when local students celebrated India’s loss in the T20 semifinals which drew the ire of non-local students.
Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh told mediapersons that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is monitoring the situation and a Senior Superintendent (SP) rank officer is stationed there to keep vigil.
Director (Technical Education) from the HRD Ministry Sanjeev Sharma, Deputy Director Finance Fazal Mehmood and Chairman of Board of Governors of NIT M J Zarabi formed a three-member UHRD team to look into the issue. Officials at NIT said the non-local students were making an issue out of nothing only to pave way for cancellation of examinations.
Menawhile, HRD Minister Smriti Irani said that no injustice would be allowed to happen against the students and her Ministry was making arrangements for students who wanted to go back home.
