New Delhi: The Nepal government on Monday asked teams from 34 countries, including India’s National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), to withdraw from all rescue operations from the earthquake-hit areas of the country.

India was one of the first countries to send relief and aid to Nepal after a 7.9 magnitude temblor ravaged the Himalayan country on April 25, killing over 7000 people and displacing millions out of their homes.

The NDRF has 16 teams of 50 members each in Nepal, the highest number of rescue personnel sent by any country.  Other countries like Japan, Turkey, Ukraine, the UK and Netherlands have also reportedly begun withdrawing from relief and rescue operations in Nepal.

Sources said the Nepal government now wants to focus on relief and rehabilitation of the earthquake victims and hence no more needs rescue teams from abroad.
