The leaders of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), led by Rahul Gandhi of the Congress, initiated their campaign for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections at the Jan Vishwas mega rally of the Grand Alliance (GA) held at the Gandhi Maidan in Patna, Bihar. They echoed a rallying cry of “Desh Bachao, BJP Hatao” to challenge the Bharatiya Janata Party’s hold on power.
Describing Bihar as the nation’s political epicenter, Gandhi emphasized its historical significance in driving transformative changes across India. He highlighted an ongoing ideological battle, contrasting the INDIA Alliance’s message of love amidst hatred with the BJP’s divisive tactics.
Gandhi criticized the BJP government, accusing it of favoring a select few while neglecting the majority, particularly Dalits and backward classes. He specifically mentioned concerns regarding the Agniveer scheme’s impact on the youth.
Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress president, criticized Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s political shifts, cautioning against aligning with him again due to ideological inconsistencies.
Tejashwi Yadav, praised for job creation during his tenure as deputy CM, criticized Kumar using a popular Bollywood song to imply political instability.
Lalu Prasad Yadav criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning his credentials as a true Hindu and highlighting alleged hypocrisy regarding family traditions.
Leaders from various opposition parties, including Samajwadi Party, CPI(M), CPI, and CPI(ML), joined the rally, condemning Modi’s policies and endorsing Tejashwi Yadav’s focus on job creation.
In response, BJP spokesperson Nikhil Anand dismissed the rally’s significance, labeling it as a failed attempt to rejuvenate the INDIA Alliance’s image.
JD(U) chief spokesperson Neeraj Kumar accused Tejashwi Yadav of attempting to distance himself from his father’s political legacy, suggesting that the RJD’s inclusive rhetoric masked dynasty politics.
