NaMo’s cabinet has surprises; Shah gets Home, Rajnath gets Defence

New Delhi: The rejig of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi cabinet has some surprise elements.

Cabinet debutant Amit Shah, who is the BJP national chief has been given the crucial and high-profile Home Ministry.

Former Home Minister Rajnath Singh has been given the Defence Ministry. The Ministry of External Affairs, which was previously held by senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj has been given to former foreign secretary S Jaishankar.

Former defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman has been moved to the finance ministry as Arun Jaitley had bowed out citing health reasons.

The new Council of Ministers comprises 58 names, including the Prime Minister, with 25 holding cabinet positions, nine Ministers of State with Independent charge and 24 Ministers of State.
