Mumbai registers 52.66 percent voter; highest turnout since 1991

Mumbai: The 19 Lok Sabha constituencies in Mumbai, North Maharashtra and Marathwada registered 55.33 percent average voter turnout in the third and last phase of polling for the Lok Sabha election in the state on Thursday April 25.

Interestingly, Mumbai registered record a breaking 52.66 percent voter turnout, surpassing the average voter turnout of Mumbai recorded in last six Lok Sabha elections held since 1991.

The average voter turnout in the last six Lok Sabha elections in Mumbai was 41.40% (2009), 47.30% (2004), 45.00% (1999), 50.40% (1998), 45.10% (1996) and 41.60% (1991).

While commoners came up for voting and posed thier voted finger, bollywood celebrities like Rekha, Vidya Balan, Sunny Deol and Sonam Kapoor were among the early-morning voters who gave a head start to voting in Mumbai, followed by Amitabh Bachchan with his entier family.

Actors Juhi Chawla, Shilpa Shetty, Kunal Kapoor, Shreya Ghoshal, Dia Mirza, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, John Abraham and Riteish Deshmukh were other celebrities who cast their vote.

The celebs stressed the need for people to come out and vote, considering Mumbai is infamous for its comparatively low voter turnout.
