Uttara Pradesh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi too a swipe at Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s father and former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi by calling him ‘corrupt no-1’
He was in a rally in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, while he retorted to the allegations levelled against him in the Rafale deal by the Congress.
“Your father was termed ‘Mr. Clean’ by his courtiers, but his life ended as ‘Bhrashtachari No:1’,” PM Modi said referring to the Bofors scandal that broke during Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure.
However, responding to this, Rahul Gandhi took to twitter and said, “Modi Ji, the battle is over. Your Karma awaits you. Projecting your inner beliefs about yourself onto my father won’t protect you. All my love and a huge hug. Rahul. “
Conngress leaders take offence, launch Twitter attack
Many leaders of the Congress party took objection to the statement of the PM.
“Mr Modi has crossed all limits of propriety and decency by defaming a man (Rajiv Gandhi) who died in 1991,” Mr Chidambaram wrote. He added that the charges against Rajiv Gandhi were dropped by the Delhi High Court.
Mr Chidambaram wrote: “Does Mr Modi read anything at all? Does he know that the charge against Mr Rajiv Gandhi was thrown out by the High Court, Delhi as ‘completely baseless?'”
Khurshid also responded to the post saying, “Mid summer madness of PM Modi. Seeking short cuts to oblivion!” He later added, in another tweet, “PM Modi has touched the bottom of decency and humanity by foul mouth comments on late Rajivji. For the first time I am ashamed of a serving PM of India. (sic)”
In yet another tweet, Khurshid said, “Ma ka apmaan kiya Modi ne, ab baap ka apmaan bhi kar diya. Apmaan to desh ka kiya hai. Yeh hum bhoolenge nahi. Insaniyat sharminda hai. Jan tak sooraj chand rahega Rajivji ka naam rahega. Aag baboola ho Modi bhakton.” (Modi insulted the mother and now he insulted the father. He has insulted the country. We will not forget this. Humanity is ashamed. Till the sun and moon exist, Rajiv’s name will remain.)
A war of words has been going on between Rahul Gandhi and Modi and the former has been taking a dig at the PM with ‘Chowkidaar Chor hai’ slogan.
