Thiruvananthapuram: ‘Vikram’, the lander separated from Chandrayaan-2 orbiter on Monday. With this India inched closer to making history. But here in Kerala the moon mission made way for scripting of yet another history as 22-year-old Heidi Saadiya debuted as a first transgender broadcast journalist from the state. Her maiden assignment was coverage of Chandrayaan-2!
Saadiya had joined Kairali news TV on August 31 and covered the development of Chandrayaan-2.
Expressing her happiness over the changing scenario as people are now making space for the members from the LGBTQ community, Saadiya told news18 that she had joined Kairali TV as an intern and after a week of internship, the company offered her a post of ‘news trainee’.
Saadiya, who holds post-graduation degree in electronic media from the Trivandrum Institute of Journalism said, “this is a profession that I feel has no discrimination. The newsroom feels like a second home to me. I hope the LGBTQ community gets more such inclusive workspaces in future,” she said. Saadiya, who left her house at the age of 18, said she has no complaints against her parents who refused to accept her. “I just want them to see what I am doing right now.”
