Imphal: Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey conducted a meeting with two young tribal women who had been paraded naked by a mob on May 4. During the meeting, she provided each of the victims’ families with a cheque of Rs 10 lakh.

Expressing her concern and empathy, the Governor stated that the entire country is ashamed of the incident and assured the victims of necessary financial and moral support.

During her second visit to relief centres in Churachandpur, the Governor urged everyone to collaborate in restoring peace, normalcy, and harmony in the state.

She inspected the relief centres, interacted with the affected people and distributed relief materials such as hygiene kits, eatables for children, and some cash.

Governor Uikey made an earnest appeal to the youth of Manipur, urging them not to take the law into their own hands and to refrain from engaging in unlawful activities.

While interacting with the displaced people at the relief camps, she expressed her purpose of consoling, empathizing, and extending support to those affected.

The government pledged to provide compensation to the affected people, and the Governor assured that every effort would be made to restore peace and secure a brighter future for the people.

Additionally, she met with the families of ex-servicemen and leaders of Civil Society Organizations in Tuibong, listening to their grievances.

Various organizations, including Kuki Inpi, ITLF, and Kuki Women Organization for Human Rights, submitted a memorandum to the Governor.

As the President of the Rajya Sainik Board, Governor Uikey generously donated Rs 15,000 to seven ex-servicemen’s families and provided them with relief materials, including blankets and jumbo boxes.

She also handed over relief materials to the district’s Red Cross Society.

However, the state is currently facing challenges due to road blockades, disrupting the flow of basic amenities and medicine.

To address this issue, the Governor brought medical supplies, mosquito nets, tarpaulins, hygiene kits, and other relief materials.

Governor Uikey expressed her deep understanding of the pain and suffering experienced by the affected people and their desire to return to their homes. She appealed to the two communities involved to come together, negotiate, and find a lasting solution to end the violence.

Furthermore, she implored all concerned parties not to resort to vigilantism, emphasizing that various Central forces are present to ensure the security of all citizens.

The Governor called upon everyone to extend their support in the efforts to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
