Murshidabad: A bizarre incident was reported recently, wherein a voter ID issued to a person had a photograph of a dog instead of the cardholder.

Sunil Karmakar, a resident of Ramnagar village was issued a voter ID with a dog’s photo.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, March 4, Sunil had said that he had applied for a correction in his voter ID. He said that even after the correction, he had received a card with a dog’s photo in place of his own.

Sunil said that he was called by Dulal Smriti School to collect his revised voter ID and that the officer present there had signed and handed over the card, but had failed to check the photo.

“They have played with my dignity. I will meet the Block Development Officer (BDO) and request him to see to it that such blunders are not committed in the future,” he added.

In a clarification issued regarding the incident, BDO Rajarshi Chakraborthy said, “The voter ID given to Sunil was not the final one. Mistakes in the card can be corrected. The issue of his photo being replaced by a dog’s photo might have been done by someone during the process of filling online application. Currently, the photo has been corrected and he will be receiving a final voter ID with his photo.”
