Kerala: An American drone strike in Afghanistan has reportedly killed a Malappuram youth, who had joined the Islamic State (IS) in 2017. As per sources Muhammed Muhasin, a native of Edappal in Malappuram was killed in the airstrike and the news was communicated to his family via whatsapp from an unidentified number from Afghanistan, on Tuesday.
“He has become a shaheed (martyr). He was martyred in the path of Allah in an American drone attack in Afghanistan,” read a message in Malayalam, along with Muhasim’s picture.
However, though the news of the majority of the IS fighters in Syria having been killed is making rounds and reports that 13 persons from Kasargod, who joined the IS too having been killed, the NIA sources are quoted in the New Indian Express saying that they have no official communication from Afghan agencies about the death of any Indian.
The Interpol red-notice is pending against 21 persons, who are in Afghan and the NIA sources say that even if the IS operatives talk about the death of their members, the lookout notice against them remains pending.
Meanwhile, Muhasin was an engineering college dropout in the final year, who left his home saying that he was going to Bengaluru. Sources say that he has not been in touch with the family and because of the same reason his family had lodged a missing complaint. However, later it was said that Muhasin was counted as one of the many Kerala youth, who went missing and joined the IS cadres.
