An official today stated that a 51-year-old passenger was detained for smoking in the aircraft restroom while traveling from Muscat to Mumbai.
According to him, the incident happened on board Vistara’s UK234 flight, which departed at 11:56 p.m. on Monday from Muscat for the capital of Maharashtra.
According to the official, the passenger, Balakrishna Rajayan, walked to the restroom on the back side of the airplane and lit up a cigarette.
According to him, Rajayan is from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu. He said that the incident was discovered by the aircraft’s pilot, who used a smoke detector to help him notice it.
The official stated that when the pilot alerted the crew, they searched the restroom and discovered a cigarette bud in the washbasin.
The flight attendants alerted the ground-based security supervisor about the passenger’s disruptive behavior on Tuesday morning after the aircraft touched down at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, he said.
After escorting the passenger to their office, the security personnel asked him about his behavior. He acknowledged that he had smoked in the restroom and mentioned that Rajayan had also supplied the matchbox that had been used to light the cigarette.
Later, after being brought to the city’s Sahar police station, the security supervisor lodged a complaint against him.
According to the lawsuit, Rajayan purposefully broke the flight attendants’ safety regulations by smoking inside the aircraft, endangering every passenger.
According to him, a case was filed against the traveller under sections 25 of the Aircraft Rules and 336 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with threatening the lives or personal safety of others.
