Former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique announced his resignation from the Congress on Thursday, marking the end of his 48-year association with the party.
“After a significant journey spanning 48 years, I have decided to resign from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress Party, effective immediately,” Baba Siddique shared on social media, formally Twitter.

“While there are many thoughts I would have wished to convey, some things are best left unsaid. I express my gratitude to everyone who has been a part of this journey,” Baba Siddique added.

The move comes days after the Election Commission of India recognised the Ajit Pawar faction as the real National Congress Party (NCP).
Baba Siddique’s son is currently a Congress MLA from Bandra (East) in Mumbai.
Baba Siddique was an MLA for three consecutive terms in 1999, 2004 and 2009, and had also served as a minister of state for food and civil supplies, labour and FDA, (2004–08) and had also served as a municipal corporator earlier for two consecutive terms (1992–1997).
Baba Siddique has also served as the chairperson and senior vice president of the Mumbai Regional Congress Committee and parliamentary board of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee.
