Patna: Indira Gandhi Medical Institute staff were all out for a shock when they saw this surprise visitor. Even as they rushed to him to welcome him thinking that he must have visited the hospital to see an ailing patient, they soon realised that the visitor was on a mission -‘surprise raid’.
The visitor was none other than Rashrtiya Janata Dal Chief and incumbent Health Minister Tej Prathap Yadav’s father Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Yadav soon started striking conversation with the patients in his inimitable style, asking them about the services in the hospital.
The hospital authorities say that over the last ten years, CM Nitish Kumar or any other minister from his cabinet have never asked for a favour from the hospital. However, the ‘proxy’ to the Health Minister is someone who had spent several months at a VIP room in 1997, after he was remanded to judicial custody in fodder scam in 1997.
The visit could leave the Nitish Kumar government red-faced as the Opposition BJP is expected to target the ‘extra-constitutional authority’.
This is the second such incident, after RJD leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh said law and order was not good in the state and it was upto “Nitish Kumar, who is sitting on the driver’s seat of the government… to check further slide.”
The JDU and RJD had come together ending years of acrimony and formed the government in Bihar last month.
