New Delhi: In order to have a clear idea of how to deal with the disqualification of legislators in the future, the Karnataka State Assembly Speaker’s office has asked the Supreme Court of India to set guidelines for the same.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing before the court for the Karnataka Legislative Assembly’s office, has requested the Apex Court to form certain guidelines in this regard.
It can be recalled that 17 legislators, formerly belonging to the Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) parties, were disqualified by former speaker Ramesh Kumar after a three-day check of their resignations.
After all the 17 lawmakers were disqualified, they moved the Supreme Court by filing a petition against the former speaker, questioning his decision.
The court has now adjourned the hearting for Thursday and is expected to pronounce its judgement on the same day.
