Kasargod: A 21-year-old man, identified as Muhammad Naufal alias Sawad, was apprehended after allegedly stealing an ambulance in the Uppala area.
The ambulance belonged to Muhammad Riaz of Pachlampare and was parked at a private hospital area. The incident unfolded on a Friday evening when Riaz left the ignition key in the ambulance and stepped away. Upon returning, he discovered the vehicle missing and promptly reported the theft to the Manjeshwar police.
The police acted swiftly, utilizing the GPS system to track the stolen ambulance. During the chase, the speeding vehicle collided with the wall of a property in Badaje Chowki. Law enforcement successfully detained Naufal, who was subsequently produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
Notably, Naufal had a previous criminal record, having been accused in an auto-rickshaw theft case. The latest incident highlights the need for increased vigilance in securing emergency vehicles and the importance of preventive measures to curb such unusual crimes.
