Kottayam: A 25-year-old man tragically lost his life on Friday after a mishap on a moving train bound for Thiruvananthapuram, according to police reports. The victim, identified as Deepak George Varkey, had just completed his Hotel Management course in Pune and was on his way back when the incident occurred at Kottayam station.
Deepak had initially disembarked, bringing all his belongings onto the platform. However, upon realizing he had forgotten his glasses, he re-entered the moving train to retrieve them. In the attempt to quickly exit, he slipped beneath the train and suffered fatal injuries, as per the police.
The shocking incident only came to light when Deepak’s friends, who were eagerly awaiting his arrival at Kottayam railway station, couldn’t find him. Their search extended to the next stations, Changanassery and Thiruvalla, but there was no trace of Deepak. Despite multiple attempts to contact him by phone, they received no response.
It was only after alerting the railway police station that they discovered Deepak George Varkey had met with a tragic accident at Kottayam railway station. The young man hailed from Puthuppally.
