Kochi: A young lady from Paravur near Kochi in Kerala has alleged that her husband has plotted to sell her as sex slave to the Islamic State in Syria, after she was forcefully converted.

The Superintendent of Police of Ernakulam (rural) AV George is quoted in media stating that two persons – Fawaz Jamal and Mohamed Siyad – were charged under several sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) in connection to the said case.

The 24-year-old woman has alleged that her husband Mohamed Riyaz, 26, hailing from North Kerala is conspiring against her and that she was tortured by Jamal and Siyad at the behest of her husband. She was then taken to a religious centre for conversion and was later sent to Saudi Arabia, where she was kept under illegal confinement. However, she managed to get a mobile phone, with the help of which she informed about her ordeal to her parents and also got through some NRIs who managed to help her flee Saudi in October, 2017. A case was registered by the Kerala police in December and the international criminal police organisation Interpol has been contacted to deport woman’s husband, who is believed to be in Jeddah. Meanwhile, the SP is quoted in Hindustan Times stating that the department will verify if the two accused have any connections with the IS or not.

The lady in question had met Riyaz in Bengaluru in 2015, when she was still a student. They got into a relation and the victim has also alleged that Riyaz had videographed their intimate moments and had later blackmailed her. She had married Riyaz in 2016, after going through a forced conversion process. She has informed that she overheard her husband talk about the plan to sell her, over the phone.

A complaint was filed by her in the Kerala High Court to annul her marriage with Riyaz. Another petition has been moved by her in the high court seeking NIA probe and she said that the police is not interested in probing the case.
