Kottayam: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy escaped unhurt when his car met with an accident in the wee hours of Sunday at Ettumanoor near Kottayam.
Sources said that the front right side tyre of the vehicle got punctured causing it to skid off to a drainage canal and to collide at a compound wall nearby.
The CM was returning to Kottayam from Malappuram, when the mishap occurred at about 2.30 am at a curve near church junction, along Main Central Road at Kanakkaray.
CM’s gunman Ashok, who was in the front seat suffered mild injuries on his left arm. Chandy said that he was asleep and escaped from injuries as he had worn seat belt.
Chandy was soon taken to Government Guest House at Nattakom, on his escort vehicle. A team of doctors from Government general hospital, Kottayam, who examined his health condition at the Guest House, confirmed that the CM was safe.
Meanwhile, state intelligence would inquire on possible lapse in the security of the Chief Minister.
