New Delhi: It has recently come to light that Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar, who was yesterday sent to judicial custody till March 2, has been kept at the jail number 3 of Tihar Jail, the same cell where Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru was lodged in.

A 12-member quick-reaction team would be deployed around the cell to keep a 24-hour watch.

According to sources, 50 policemen surrounded Kumar as he was brought to jail around 8.15pm after which he was registered as an inmate and underwent a medical test.

He would be kept in ward number 4 to ensure proximity to hospital in the event of an emergency.

“One of the cells close to the jail entrance has been vacated and reserved for him. He will be kept under multi-layered security and only Delhi Prison officials or staff will be allowed near his cell. His food will be checked as a precautionary measure,” said an official.

Kumar will be checked for suicidal tendencies as well, it has been reported.

Security outside the jail has also been intensified.
