New Delhi: Days after comedian Kunal Kamra was banned by IndiGo Airlines and three other airline companies for “heckling” TV Journalist Arnab Goswami, the IndiGo pilot who flew the comedian has asked the airline’s management why he was not consulted before Kamra was banned.
According to a report by NDTV, the Captain of the flight wrote to IndiGo Airlines’ management saying, “I was disheartened to learn that my Airline has taken action in this case solely on the basis of Social Media posts, with no consultation whatsoever with the Pilot-in-Command. This is somewhat unprecedented in my nine years of Airline flying.”
Speaking about the incident, the Captain said that even though Kamra’s behaviour was “unsavoury”, he did not qualify as a “level 1 unruly passenger”. He added that he did not find the incident to be reportable in any way.
His letter further read, “Pilots can attest to incidents which were similar and/or worse in nature that were not deemed unruly.”
He then asked the management to clarify if the bar for “interpretation of a disruptive passenger is lower/different when it comes to high profile cases”.
It can be recalled that on Tuesday, Kamra was banned by IndiGo Airlines for a period of six months for confronting Arnab Goswami while on a flight. The latter remained silent throughout while the former kept hitting him with a barrage of questions, in a fashion similar to how the journalist is seen during TV debates.
According to PTI, IndiGo has received the relevant statements and an internal committee has begun an investigation into the incident.
