New Delhi: After media reports surfaced that Justices R S Nariman and D Y Chandrachud met with Justice S A Bobde on Friday evening, the Supreme Court, on Sunday, has denied the same.

It can be recalled that S A Bobde is heading the in-house panel that conducting and “informal” probe into the sexual harassment allegations against Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi. The panel consists of two other judges of the apex court, Justice Indu Malhotra and Indira Banerjee.

The SC called the Indian Express’ report on the issue “most unfortunate” and assured that the judges did not meet on Friday. It then asserted that the in-house panel deliberates without inputs from other judges of the Court.

The Indian Express had also reported that Justice Chandrachud suggested to the panel that it either agree to the complainant’s request to provide her with a lawyer or appoint an amicus curiae for the investigation.

Although the SC denied that the three judges met, it did not, however confirm or deny that Justice Chandrachud wrote to the judges on the probe panel on May 2, stating that the “credibility of the Supreme Court would be further damaged if they decided to continue with the probe in the absence of the complainant”.
