Kolkata: A teenage girl, who was also an ace volleyball player, was hacked to death in Barasat near Kolkata on Friday. A young man allegedly attacked her with a cleaver as she was playing volleyball with 30 other girls.

Sangita Aich also known as Teena was just 14 and was studying in class 9. If not for the tragedy, then she was to play a match on Saturday.

The accused is Subrata Singha or Raja (19).

The two had allegedly met on volleyball field and Raja had proposed to her, which she turned down.

Jilted lover, Raja ended up running a cleaver on her for the refusal.

All efforts of coach, Swapan Das to save Tina did yield result as Raja rushed towards her.

Even as the girl tried to rush to her house, barely 100mts away from the field, Raja caught her and hacked her several times.

By the time, the shocked locals rushed the girl to the hospital, she was dead.

The motive of the murder is not clear but police suspect it may be a case of unrequited love as the family members say that even the past Raja had threatened her.

The police are now searching for Raja, whose photo was identified from his Facebook account by Mr Das. He is a resident of Barrackpore 15 kilometres away from Barasat.
