Kerala: A jilted lover set his former girlfriend on fire inside a medical college classroom in Kerala’s Kottayam town on Wednesday before immolating himself. The two succumbed to the severe burns, later in a hospital.
It is said that the accused barged into the classroom at the School of Medical Education, with a bottle of petrol, poured it in his target, a student of fourth semester of physiotherapy and set her ablaze. All this happened in front of her classmates, who said it was all over before they could react. The attacker, a former student of the same college, then rushed out of the classroom and set himself on fire.
The two were admitted to Kottayam Medical College Hospital. Both of them later succumbed to their injuries.
As per sources, the two were in love with each other, but after her parents objected to the relationship, the girl had broken ties with the accused. This had raged the accused, a 25-year-old resident from Kollam. He frequently stalked the girl and also threatened her on several occasions before taking this drastic step.
