Two Muslims in the Reasi district have donated their land to a 500-year-old Hindu temple that was inaccessible, sending out a message of religious harmony. On the property, a road connecting the temple will be built.
Residents of Kheral panchayat Gulam Rasool and Gulam Mohammad have donated four kanals of land to the panchayat, at an estimated cost exceeding one crore rupees. On this land, a road measuring 1220 meters and with a width of 10 feet will be built for the Gupt Kashi – Gouri Shankar temple located in Kansi Patta village of Reasi district.
According to officials, panchayat funds will be used to build the road shortly.
Gulam Rasool, a former panchayat member and farmer, said some people tried to create a rift in society by citing the road issue.
“The temple didn’t have any proper road. Some people had even run a hate campaign intending to create a rift,” he said.
To protect communal harmony, a meeting of the panchayat members and revenue officials was held recently. During the meeting, the landowners, Gulam Rasool and Gulam Mohammad, agreed to hand over some portions of their land for the road.
The temple is preparing for renovations in the interim. There is more land in the area owned by the temple. The District Development Commissioner Reasi has been made aware of the land-related issue.
