Tiruvannamalai: The villagers from all over Tamil Nadu have been flocking Tiruvannamalai to seek the blessings of a woman saint from Jain community, who has refused to take food and water in a bid to attain ‘Jeeva Samadhi (salvation).’

A 72-year-old Jain saint Sullika Sri Sukundanmadhi Mathaji, reached a Jain monastery in Vadamathimangalam, Tiruvannamalai district which comes under Polur taluk some days ago, and is waiting for her ‘holy’ death. She is expected to attain ‘Jeeva Samadhi’ in two days, and as per religious beliefs she will not get reincarnated into the mortal world after this.

She is currently being taken care of by the monks of Tirumalai Jain monastery. Superior monk Tavala Keerthi Swamigal has said that Mathaji is a native of Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur, and her original name is Pavari Devi. She denounced her family and other worldly connections in 2010 and became a monk and visited many Jain temples around India in the years since.
