Thiruvananthapuram: God’s Own Country-Kerala attracts tourists across the globe. While most of them come to Kerala for a holiday, many Israeli police frequent a non-descript town-Kannur in Kerala to make sure that they look elegant!
Yes, Israeli police visit Kannuru very often because this is where their elegant light-blue, double-pocket, long sleeved uniform shirts are stitched. At a garment unit named Maryan Apparels, at the industrial park here, the uniform shirts are stitched to perfection and the trademark emblem is attached.
Several tailors work in several shifts to stich perfect uniforms and it is said that nearly one lakh shirts have been supplied annually to Israeli police over the last three years.
NDTV quotes Maryan Apparel Accounts and Administration Manager Sijin Kumar saying that earlier the company used to stitch even the trousers, but recently, a Chinese firm bagged that order. However, the company is hopeful of getting the order back at the earliest.
The company says that the Israeli police are very particular about the quality and hence they frequently visit the company to monitor the process.
Besides this, the company which is owned by businessman Thomas Olickal also stitches uniforms for the Kuwait Fire Service personnel and national guards and if everything goes as per plans then it will also stitch uniforms for the Philippine Army.
Maryan Apparels was started in 2006 and it specialises in producing uniforms for various sectors ranging from hospitals, commercial establishments and educational institutions.
