New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj was trolled and abused on Twitter, on Sunday for taking a stand on the issue revolving around an inter-faith couple.
Last week, a Passport Seva Kendra official named Vikas Mishra, in Lucknow was transferred after an inter-faith couple alleged that he humiliated them when they went to the office with their passport applications and also asked the Muslim husband to embrace Hinduism while he pulled up the lady for her decision to marry a Muslim.
While some attacked the minister for not taking serious action against Mishra, Swaraj retweeted some abusive posts that she received for standing by the couple.
A twitter user shamed the minister and posted “Shame on you mam…. Is it effect of your Islamic kidney?? (sic)”
“I was out of India from 17th to 23rd June 2018. I do not know what happened in my absence. However, I am honoured with some tweets. I am sharing them with you. So I have liked them,” Sushma Swaraj wrote as she retweeted some of the abusive posts.
However, in the midst of the commotion, the BJP’s arch-rival- the Congress party applauded Swaraj and tweeted: “No matter the situation or reason, nothing calls for threats of violence, disrespect & abuse.”
No matter the situation or reason, nothing calls for threats of violence, disrespect & abuse. @SushmaSwaraj ji, we applaud your decision to call out the heinous trolls of your own party.https://t.co/qcB0qemRGZ
