New Delhi: India caused “significant casualties” on terrorists and those who support them during surgical strikes across the India-Pakistan border late on Wednesday, the Indian Army has said.
“India cannot allow terrorists to operate across the LoC (Line of Control) and strike with impunity,” Director General Military Operations Lt. Gen. Ranbir Singh told a hurriedly called press briefing here, soon after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security.
“I had spoken to the Pakistan DGMO and we expect the Pakistan Army to cooperate with us to eliminate the threat of terror,” he said,” adding: “The strikes were carried out based on specific and credible information,” he said, adding
The police said the firing took place at Danesh and Lakshmi posts in Naugam sector. “Indian troops are effectively retaliating Pakistani firing. Exchanges are still going on in the area,” the police added.
According to sources, India responded to unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan on LOC with punitive strikes. Two Pakistani soldiers have been killed in Indian firing.
