New Delhi: Right-wing group Hindu Raksha Dal has claimed the responsibility for the brutal assault on JNU students and teachers, on January 5.

It may be recalled that ABVP Delhi Joint Secretary Anima Sonkar had already admitted that two men seen in the videos of the JNU assault are members of RSS-linked student union.

However, a video by Hindu Raksha Dal leader Bhupendra Tomar alias Pinku Chaudhary confirms that the attack was executed by the saffron wing. Tomar, owning the responsibility of the attack says that Dal workers barged into the JNU campus on Sunday night as “anti-national and anti-Hindu activities” were being carried out there.

Tomar, who calls JNU a hub of communists, is seen saying that ‘they’ will not tolerate such hubs and that in future too such actions will be taken against universities if someone tries to indulge in anti-national activities.

“They abuse our religion and our country. They eat here, live here and learn here. Their attitude towards our religion is anti-national,” Tomar said in the 1 minute and 59-second video.

Meanwhile, news agency ANI quoted government sources as saying that claims made by Tomar are being investigated.

Violence broke out at JNU on Sunday as a masked mob armed with sticks and rods attacked students and teachers and damaged property on the campus.

Over 20 people, including JNU Students’ Union president Aishe Ghosh, were injured and admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) as chaos reigned on the campus for two hours.
