Hike in IIT fees; 100 per cent waiver for SC/ST, disabled, poor

New Delhi: Following a proposal from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) panel, twofold hike has been announced in the annual fees for undergraduate courses.

The fees will be hiked from existing Rs 90,000 to Rs 2 lakhs from upcoming academic session. There will be a 100 per cent fee waiver for students from scheduled castes/ tribes (SC’s/ST’s), other backward classes (OBC’s) and for the physically-disabled in IIT’s and also for those belonging to economically weaker sections.

The decision to hike the fees was taken by the HD ministry headed by Minister for Human Resource Development Smriti Irani which was recommended by a high level committee of IIT directors.
