Pune: Coming in strong support of her husband, Swapna Mahadik, wife of Prakash Mahadik, who is accused of allegedly filming the rape of a 25-year-old female employee at the Pune Infosys campus, has said that her husband is innocent and that he had filmed the rape only to show to seniors the wrongful incident that occurred in the premises.
The woman was raped by Paritosh Bagh (21), an employee at the Infosys canteen.
Swapna, who returned to Pune after hearing the news of her husband’s arrest spoken to a section of media and said that her husband respected women.
“Regarding Sunday’s incident, he told me that he saw the duo in the toilet in an objectionable position and captured images as proof, just to show his senior about the wrongful practices being carried out. But before he could tell them on Monday, he was arrested in a fabricated case,” she vouched adding that even as she believes that her husband would never indulge in such activities, if he had a role to play in the shameful incident, he should be penalised.
Talking on the same lines, Mahadik’s brother Mahendra said that his brother is a sheer gentleman by nature and is not even addicted to alcohol.
“He has been employed here since long and he was awarded by his agency for his good work several times” Mahendra claimed.
In a way, holding the victim responsible for her fate, Mahendra questioned why she had been to an isolated toilet of B12 when her canteen in B3 too has a toilet.
Meanwhile, the police are awaiting a medical report.
Senior Inspector S P Bhosale, in-charge of Hinjewadi police station said, “The mobile handset has been sent to a forensic expert. But based on technical data and nearby CCTV camera footage, Mahadik was seen present at the spot. Accordingly, we have invoked additional sections under the Indian Penal Code and The Information Technology Act.”
