Ranu Shah, 59, passed away after her mentally ill son, Atrish, 27, attacked her and set their Gurugram apartment on fire. It is understood that the man attacked his mother because she called him “mad.” He has been placed under arrest. The family lived in a posh apartment complex called Vipul Greens in Sector 48 of Gurugram. Atrish had been receiving treatment for mental illness for a long time, and neighbors claimed he frequently got into arguments with his parents.
Late last night, neighbours saw that their flat was on fire. Firefighters and the police were called in. They broke open the door and rescued Ms Shah with severe burn injuries. She was rushed to a private hospital nearby, where she succumbed to her injuries.
A preliminary investigation, according to the police, revealed that Atrish would frequently become angry and attack his mother. Yesterday, Ms. Shah allegedly called him “mad” during an incident. The 27-year-old was set off by this, and he stabbed his mother multiple times. Then he started a fire in their house. The incident occurred when Ms. Shah’s husband was away.
According to senior police officer Mayank Gupta, the man’s mental state will be assessed before authorities decide how best to carry with the inquiry.
