Gurugram: The manager of a restaurant located in Gurugram, Haryana, was apprehended by authorities following the circulation of distressing footage on social media depicting five patrons experiencing severe health issues after ingesting a purported “mouth freshener,” as per a report from news agency ANI.

All five individuals were hospitalized, with two of them currently in critical condition. Preliminary investigations revealed that they had been offered dry ice as a mouth freshener at Laforestta Cafe.

Dry ice, the solidified form of carbon dioxide gas, poses risks of cold burns and asphyxiation if mistakenly ingested.

Officer Surender Sheoran of the Manesar police informed  “Legal action has been initiated against the restaurant’s staff and owner, with the restaurant manager now in custody. Our inquiry into the matter is ongoing.”

In their police statement, the affected customers described experiencing a burning sensation in their mouths initially, followed by bouts of vomiting, some of which included blood. Even rinsing their mouths with water failed to alleviate their symptoms.

Ankit Kumar, one of the individuals present at Laforestta Cafe in Sector 90 of Gurugram with his wife and friends, recounted, “Upon consulting a doctor and presenting the mouth freshener packet, it was identified as dry ice. The doctor cautioned that it contains an acid that could potentially be fatal.”
