Surat: BJP Chief Amit Shah’s rally in Surat took a ugly turn when massive chaos broke out at the venue in Surat on Thursday.
As per sources, Shah was about to address Patidar rally in Surat on Thursday evening as angry Patels resorted to breaking the chairs, shouting out pro-Hardik Patel and anti-Shah slogans.
Hardik Patel, whose name was chanted, was the face of the agitation that shook Gujarat for over 40 days last year. The 23-year-old Hardik Patel had challenged the BJP government, saying “If you hurt this community, the government will collapse”.
As per eyewitnesses, Shah was forced to cut short his speech to mere four minutes due to the violent revolt of the Patedars, who were chanting Hardik Patel’s name.
It is said that the organisers begged before the protesters to remain at the venue and not protest. When situation went out of control, the police was called in to send the trouble makers away.
The incident is being perceived as a strong hint at the outcome of the upcoming Gujarat polls.
On stage Shah was accompanied by Union Minister Purshottam Rupala who also addressed the crowd. Shah was in Surat to attend a huge rally called by the BJP to honour the new Patel ministers in the government led by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
However, red-faced BJP accused the Congress of creating the trouble.
