Gandhinagar/ New Delhi: Excluding certain offences where the penalties are not alterable, the Gujarat Government has drastically reduced the penalties for many offences from what is notified by the Centre in the Motor Vehicle Act 2019.

TOI reports that the changes have been notified as coming into force from16 September.

Deductions vary from 25% to 90% of the amounts notified by the Centre. The decision taken on “Compassionate and Humanitarian Grounds” however specifically excludes any concession being allowed in case of accidents involving fatalities.

The government has also clarified that Drunken Driving, Jumping Red Light and Juvenile Driving will continue to attract the full penalties as originally notified because no alteration is permitted by the law for these offences, and these offences will also be part of a sustained clampdown on serious traffic violations.
