Goa : The manager of a five-star hotel was arrested and accused of killing his wife after she accused him of having an affair.
The 29-year-old Gaurav Katiyar pretended that his wife had drowned in the sea while he was away in an effort to cover up the murder.
Gaurav Katiyar works as a manager at a posh Marriott International hotel in Colva, South Goa.
Gaurav Katiyar, a native of Lucknow, married Diksha Gangwar about a year ago, but their union remained tense, according to officials.
According to news agency PTI, which cited police sources, “Katiyar decided to kill his wife as she knew about his extramarital affair.”
Gaurav took his wife to the beach in South Goa for a stroll where he drowned her. “The incident occurred at around 3.45 pm on Friday at Cabo de Rama beach,” a police official said.
Some tourists became suspicious and called the police when they saw him returning to the beach by himself.
They reported to the police that they had seen Gaurav and Diksha entering the water, but the woman had vanished from view when the man came back.
Katiyar attempted to claim it was an accident, but his denials were shown in a tourist’s video.
In the video, he was seen going back to the beach by himself and then going back to the water, seemingly to make sure his wife had passed away.
“The woman’s body had injury marks, suggesting signs of struggle,” officials stated.
Investigators are said to be working on the man’s arrest.
