Agra: This happens only in India! It is said that 12,800 regular students of B R Ambedkar University, Agra had enrolled at the varsity for the B.Ed exams but 20,000 students had passed the same.
Due to this massive botch up, the results hade to be withheld last minute and the Vice-Chancellor ordered a probe, which is underway.
VC Mohd Muzammil has instituted a committed to probe how the final results tally showed 20089 students when only 12,800 students were enrolled in all the affiliated colleges. and letters have been issued to private colleges where these students have studied.
The matter over 7,000 ‘ghost students’ came to light when private agency private agency preparing the results objected stating that they had data on 12,800 students, but the copies at hand exceed 20,000.
Soon, the varsity issued letters to the private colleges to submit their list of enrolled students.
As per sources, some private colleges claimed that they had taken more students against seats lying vacant and these extra students also took the exam and that they have justified their act on the basis of an HC order of 2014-15. In the academic session 2013-14 (exams for which were held in 2014-15), as many as 191 BEd colleges affiliated to Dr BR Ambedkar University had claimed that more than 40% of their seats were lying vacant and they suffered losses due to this.
The university has now sought individual data of students who passed the test. Varsity officials have also asked for CDs of the counselling sessions to find out which students actually appeared in the BEd entrance exam.
