Unlikely Beginnings:

Initially a barren area lacking even a pincode, the Khavda site caught the attention of Gautam Adani, head of the Adani group, in December 2022. Despite its desolate appearance, the area boasted exceptional solar radiation and strong wind speeds – ideal conditions for renewable energy generation.

Rapid Development:

Since Adani’s first visit, significant progress has been made. The Adani Green Energy Ltd., India’s largest renewable energy company, has invested heavily in the development of the Khavda site. The park spans over 538 square kilometers, approximately five times the size of Paris, and is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure.

Infrastructure and Investments:

The park features solar panels for harnessing sunlight and windmills to capitalize on the region’s strong wind currents. Additionally, colonies for workers, desalination plants for converting saline water into potable water, and other utilities have been established.

Ambitious Plans:

The Adani group plans to invest approximately ₹ 1.5 lakh crore to generate 30 gigawatts (GW) of clean electricity at Khavda. The park has already commissioned 2 GW of capacity, with plans to add 4 GW in the current fiscal year and 5 GW annually thereafter.

Despite the progress, the Khavda region poses unique challenges, including frequent dust storms, limited communication infrastructure, and remote location. Nevertheless, Adani’s commitment to renewable energy remains unwavering.
