Lucknow: Major rivers in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh have crossed the danger mark continuing grim flood situation. As many as 20 people have died in rain-related incident in Madhya Pradesh. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had appealed people to flood victims during his visit to Satna last night.
Meanwhile, in Bihar people living in low-lying areas have been asked to shift to safer places by the state government following rising water level in river Ganga. Besides Ganga where water is flowing two metres above the danger mark, Sone, Gandak and Saryu rivers are also flowing above danger mark. Several districts in Bihar like Patna, Baksar, Saran, Munger and Bhagalpur have been engulfed with flood-water.
Whereas in Uttar Pradesh, over a dozen districts are facing flood-threats as main rivers including Ganga and Yamuna are flowing above the danger mark at different places. Eastern districts, Bundelkhand, Allahabad, Varanasi and Yamuna are also affected by heavy rains.
According to Allahabad district administration as many as 135 villages of different areas are facing grim flood situation due to current spate in rivers. About seven thousand people have shifted in different relief camps. In Banda, Ken River is on spate and flowing nearly five meter above the anger mark. Several areas are submerged under flood water in the district.
According to flood control unit, Ganga remains above the danger mark in Ballia, Mirzapur and Gazipur districts. Ghagra river is still at danger mark in Barbanki and Ballia. Sharda river is about 30 centimeters above the anger mark in Khiri district for last many days.
