Kovalam: A youth hailing from Karnataka was arrested for allegedly raping a 35-year-old Japanese woman in Kerala`s Kovalam district.

The accused arrested has been identified as Teja (25). A case has been registered against Teja under section 376 (punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code.

The incident took place on Friday night according to police. Acting upon the complaint filed by the victim, Teja was arrested on Saturday. Teja`s family runs a handicrafts shop at Kovalam, police said.

The hotel staff rushed the victim to the government SAT Hospital after they found her injured and bleeding in her room.
