After fringe outfits sought a boycott of Aamir Khan-starrer PK, acclaimed yoga guru Baba Ramdev has now called on people to snub movies which insult Hindu deities.
Ramdev, who was in Mumbai on Sunday, said of the film: “People think at least a hundred times before speaking or doing anything against Islam, whereas anything is spoken and shown about Hindu religion. This is very shameful. Such people should be boycotted and such films should also be boycotted.”
The yoga guru accused the so-called ‘famous’ people of deriving pleasure from insulting Hindu Gods.
“It is their (so-called famous people) hobby to insult and disrespect gods, goddesses and Hindu saints. This is not right,” he said.
A number of FIRs have been registered across the country against PK. Ramdev asked the Hindus to unite and protest against the movie.
Ramdev was of the opinion that Hindus in India, despite being the majority community, fail to stay united like their minority counterparts.
“Muslims and Christians are in majority around the world and yet they are united. Hindus should also stay united whenever a question is raised on their religion and culture,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai police have issued a directive to all local police stations to provide security to all theatres screening PK, if they seek it.
“It is the responsibility of the local police to provide security to the theatres screening the movie. However, no incident has been reported so far from any of the theatres in the city,” a Mumbai police officer said.
The movie is being screened across all multiplexes and most single-screen theatres in the city. This is not the first controversy that the movie is facing.
An FIR had been lodged against the film on December 23 under Sections 153A, 295A of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Secretary of Hindu Legal Cell Prashant Patel had lodged an FIR against director Rajkumar Hirani, Aamir Khan, producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Sidharth Roy Kapur.
