Mumbai : The Mumbai police who are investigating into the case of alleged murder of techie Esther Anuhya, have suffered a setback of sorts after the Forensic lab report said that the DNA samples found on the body of Anuhya did not match that of Chandraban Sanap, a former porter at LTT who was arrested in the case. Sanap was charged with sexually assaulting Esther and also of flinging her laptop from a moving train.
Now, the police who are not left with any crucial evidence to nail Sanap have to rely on circumstantial evidence as also statements from witnesses in the case. It is being said that the lack of DNA evidence was mainly because Esther’s body was charred and decomposed state when it was found almost 11 days after she went missing.
However, police officials maintain that the lack of DNA evidence will not make much of a difference as Nandakishore Sahu, a friend of Sanap is a prime witness and his bike was used for the crime. Police say the clothes of Esther were found at Sanap’s sister’s house and even the CCTV footage of the station showed Sanap with Esther.
Anuhya who hailed from Andhra Pradesh, worked for TCS and lived in Andheri. She went missing after she landed in Mumbai at the LTT on January 5 after returning from Machalipatnam where she had celebrated Christmas with her family. Her charred remains were found in the bushes near Tata Nagar Colony in Bhandup (East) on January 16.
The accused Sanap a resident of Nasik was arrested almost after 50 days after Esther went missing on the basis of CCTV footage.
