On December 23, a drone strike inflicted damage on a merchant ship in the Indian Ocean, causing a fire on board but resulting in no casualties, as reported by two maritime agencies. The incident occurred off the coast of Veraval in Gujarat, with one of the agencies indicating that the vessel in question was linked to Israel.

The unclaimed attack prompted a response from the Indian navy. The British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations and maritime security firm Ambrey provided details, stating that the targeted vessel was a “Liberia-flagged chemical/products tanker” affiliated with Israel. According to Ambrey, the ship had recently visited Saudi Arabia and was en route to India at the time of the attack.

The drone strike caused both structural damage and the intake of water on the vessel. The Indian navy is actively responding to the situation, although no immediate comments were provided in response to Reuters’ inquiry.
