Dehradun: In a first-of-its kind experiment conducted on Friday in Uttarakhand, a drone delivered blood samples from a district hospital in Nandgaon to another primary health centre in Tehri. Considering the success of the experiment, this might be a game changer for health services in India.

According to new agency ANI, the drone covered a distance of 30 km between Nandgaon and Tehri in approximately 18 minutes. This means that the drone was quick enough to travel at a speed of 100 km per hour.

Speaking about the success of the trial run, a doctor at the Tehri hospital said, “The hospital was 30 km away but the blood samples were transported within 18 minutes. This will be helpful for patients in remote areas.”

The experiment was conducted in a bid to discover new ways to supply blood in remote areas. This could prove beneficial for people living in rural areas where there are no proper roads or medical facilities.

The drone was manufactured by CDSpace Robotics Limited, a company owned by Nikhil Upadhye, an alumni of IIT Kanpur. The drone has the capacity to carry 500 grams in weight and can travel a distance of upto 50 km on a single charge. The company is engaged in building next-generation drones for future transportation.
