Doors of Sabarimala to open for second time; Massive security surveillance

Kerala: After the Supreme Court pronounced the verdict to let women of all age group inside the sanctum of the Sabarimala temple, the temple doors were yet again opened on Monday, November 5. The temple was open for almost six days during the end of last month.

According to the police sources keeping in mind any unusual circumstances, over 2000 police personnel, a 20-member commando squad and 100 women police have been deployed on the said spots.

The authorities have also said that, if required 30 extra women police of the ranks of circle inspector and sub-inspector will be put on duty.

The sanctum is said to open at 5 PM and close at 10 PM on Tuesday, marking the birth anniversary of the last king of Travancore, Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma. A special pooja in the name of the king is said to be offered.

The Pandalam royal family has expressed its grief saying that the devotees will have to manage to get a glimpse of the deity amidst massive police surveillance.

Activist Rahul Easwar has said that his contingent is also prepared to face the situation likewise police.

According to the news reports, he is said to protest once again against the decision of the Apex Court and the Kerala government, of allowing women into the Sabarimala temple.

Nilakkal, known as the “Gateway of Sabarimala”, which is 20 km in distance from the sanctum, was observed a huge gathering of Lord Ayyappa devotees, chanting the Ayyappa mantra.

As a precautionary measure, Kerala is declared a high alert.
