Thunderstorm in Delhi and Surrounding Areas this Week

Somehow, the northern areas of India have been mostly spared from the scorching ailment, even if other parts of the country have seen an atypical scorching this summer. More rain is now predicted for a number of northwest states, which should assist to stabilize or lower the region’s temperatures this week.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that a new western disturbance is expected to impact Northwest India starting tomorrow, bringing with it a wide range of weather conditions.

For example, from Thursday to Sunday (May 9–12), rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are predicted for the majority of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

The Mangaluru City Corporation resorted to water rationing on Saturday following declining water levels in the reservoir built across the Nethravati river at Thumbe.

In the plains, light to moderate precipitation is expected to affect Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh on Saturday and Sunday (May 11–12), as well as Uttar Pradesh from Thursday to Sunday. On Wednesday and Thursday (May 9–10), there is a possibility of dust storms or thunderstorms in certain areas of Uttar Pradesh accompanied with strong surface winds.

Meanwhile, most parts of the Delhi-NCR region have been forecast to experience drizzle or light rains with gusty winds from Friday to Sunday (May 10-12)

A yellow watch, which indicates “be updated,” has been issued for Uttarakhand and East Uttar Pradesh from Wednesday through Sunday in light of these forecasts. Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi will join the alert on Thursday; Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, and West Uttar Pradesh will join on Friday.

In many places, Delhi’s midweek showers will contribute to a few degree reduction in daytime and evening temperatures. Maximum temperatures in the National Capital are predicted to stay around 40°C starting on Saturday, after rising to 41–41°C.

In the meantime, it is anticipated that Chandigarh will have a 2-4 degree reduction in temperature and that majority of Lucknow would see stable daytime temperatures.

Even though this month’s first week has been largely rainy, there is still a shortage of rainfall in the whole northwest. Jammu and Kashmir recorded 5.6 mm (67% below normal), Himachal recorded 1.8 mm (88% below normal), and Uttarakhand recorded 0.8 mm (94% below normal) between May 1 and May 7. There hasn’t been any notable precipitation in the remaining northern states yet.
